Exercise Questions and Answers
Question 1. Why does India have diverse biomes? How does the local geography connect to the diversity?
Answer (English): India has diverse biomes because it has great variations in climate, temperature, rainfall, soil and landforms. India has high mountains, vast plains, plateaus, deserts, coastal areas and islands.
Local geographical conditions influence the types of plants and animals found in an area. For example, coniferous forests are found in the Himalayas, desert vegetation in Rajasthan and tropical rainforests in the Western Ghats.

Question 5. Why are forests often called the lungs of the Earth?
Answer (English): Forests are often called the lungs of the Earth because plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen through the process of photosynthesis. Forests help maintain the balance of gases in the atmosphere, store carbon and regulate the climate. Therefore, forests are very important for life on Earth.
